Kinesiology Instructor/ Head Football Coaching

About the College


Los Angeles Valley College (LAVC) is one of nine colleges in the Los Angeles Community College District. Our campus is located in Valley Glen, in the heart of the San Fernando Valley. With an enrollment of approximately 18,000 students on 105 acres, LAVC offers a wide range of academic and career technical programs and transfers its students to the campuses of the CSU and UC systems as well as private institutions.

Our stadium has a “Sprinturf” football/soccer field and a ten lane 400 meter “Mondo” track. Our gymnasium complex features a 5,000 square foot Adaptive Physical Education facility that overlooks a new Aquatics Complex featuring a 50 meter competition pool, 25x15-yard warm water instructional pool and whirlpool. Our fitness center, North and South Gymnasiums facilities have been renovated. Our Community Services building has state of the art computer lab for student athletes, gymnastic center and rock climbing wall. Our Athletic Training Fieldhouse (ATF) provides new coaches offices, weight room, locker rooms, meeting rooms and equipment rooms, as well as a new baseball and softball complex.


In accordance with its mission as a community college, instruction at Los Angeles Valley College focuses on creating pathways for certificates, degrees, and transfer. The Kinesiology Department at Los Angeles Valley College will be conducting interviews for a full time 1.0, tenure track, Kinesiology instructor/head football coach position.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS Meet minimum qualifications with AB 1725:


  • Masters degree in Kinesiology/Physical Education, Exercise Science, or Education with an emphasis in Physical Education, Kinesiology, Physiology of Exercise, or Adaptive Physical Education.


  • OR A Bachelor’s degree in any of the above AND a master’s degree in any life science, dance, physiology, health education, recreation administration, or physical education.


  • OR the equivalent.


PREFERRED:

  • Evidence of successful teaching and coaching in a community College setting;


  • Evidence of effective participation on college, conference, and association shared governance committees;


  • Evidence of successful fundraising experience;

  • Also, 4 to 6 years of recent intercollegiate level football coaching experience required; CCCAA/NCAA experience preferred.


The position may involve teaching sections of Kinesiology activity courses, health education courses and ALL duties of a head football coach.  Further, the instructor/coach will be responsible for meeting extra-curricular responsibilities on behalf of the kinesiology department.



Core:


  • Hire, supervise and manage football staff, including FB facility assistant person, to meet needs of team;


  • Recruit student athletes to Valley College;


  • Manage and develop football budget;


  • Responsible for equipment orders and inventory;


  • Time manage of practices and games;


  • Manage advise, and mentor academic and eligibility goals of student athletes;


  • Comply with all state, CCCAA, and conference rules, regulations, constitution and bylaws;


  • Serve on college shared governance committees, working collegially with campus faculty;


  • Participate in all Kinesiology Department functions;


  • Control social media and public relations of football program;


  • Supervise and create fundraising opportunities;Interact with alumni and develop community relations.


SALARY AND BENEFITS: This assignment which includes LACCD benefits, including medical, dental, and vision insurance for the employee and eligible dependents. ​The starting base salary for this assignment will be determined off of the AFT salary scale.  The selected candidate would be evaluated through transcripts and experience on a “LACCD district salary rating, as per AFT contract” that ranges from $5,467 to $8,512 per pay period.  Current starting annual salary range is $64,417 to $94,967; also includes a coaching stipend of $9,747 for the fall season of sport.
